Cat Stevens is a prolific musician who has sold over 100 million records. His lead gate in the sun and in his incarnation cross, gate 56, the gate of the story teller has helped to fuel his legendary career. The lead gate in the sun is an extremely strong energy influence in a persons life and with Cat that is very evident!
Cat has had an interesting, sometimes controversial life with twists and turns. In 1979 he converted to Islam and changed his name to Yusuf. The name he selected was due to a story in the Qur’an about Joseph, which is Yusuf in Islam. He became fascinated by this story so here again the story teller energy, gate 56, was in play with the name change. Additionally, while his identity is undefined, there are 6 defined gates on the center. To me this represents that while his identity has morphed a few times, it transitions to something solid and non wavering as he embodies the new identity. After he converted to Islam and changed his name, he walked away from his music career. He had a life changing incident where he almost drown off the California coast.
He was being swept out to see and he promised God if he was saved would dedicate his life to “God’s work”. A large wave then came and pushed him to shore and changed his life resulting in the identity change. I would point out that having the gate 35 may have been a factor in walking away from the music industry. As he was also at times feeling frustrated with the business of the industry and perhaps those roles did not fit his definition of his identity any more. The gate 35 is sometimes called the “been there done that” gate and in this case he was done with music at least for the time being.
Cat went on to work with efforts to help children in poverty and suffering in war torn areas. This was part of his “God’s work” and part of his new identity. His work was probably amplified by his gate 50, also in his cross, which is a very fatherly, protective energy. Cat later returned to doing music in 2004 after a 25 year hiatus. Perhaps he realized his story telling and music could blend with his new identity to further help his causes.
It’s interesting as his cross is the cross of laws which is sometimes rather tribal tries to hang on to ways of the past. However, in Cat’s case, he does not have a lot of tribal energy, so it seems more grounded in the gate 10 of “Lets do the right thing!” The right thing is that children should have food, education and safety and we should all live in peace.
Perhaps one of his most famous songs is Peace Train, which he performed at the Nobel Peace prize presentation in 2006. As he states in the beginning of this video, “The eradication of poverty is the way to Peace.” The cross of Laws is about holding to things that work and if it is not working then it is time to make a change and the Peace Train is the new and righteous path.
